Tonight is the commemoration of an
extremely sad day in Jewish history, but since Tisha B'Av falls on the
Sabbath (Friday Evening & Saturday) as it does tonight, observance of
Tisha B'Av takes place on Sunday.
Tisha B'Av primarily commemorates the
destruction of the first and second Temples, both of which were destroyed on
the ninth of Av (the first by the Babylonians in 586 BC; the second by the
Romans in 70 AD); and it also happens to be the day that many other
calamities have reportedly befallen the Jewish people. I have listed a few
1290 (5050) - King Edward I of England
signs an edict expelling all Jews from England.
1492 (5252) - The Alhambra Decree takes
effect, expelling the Jews from Spain and from all Spanish territories.
1914 (5674) - World War I begins when Germany
declares war on Russia, setting the stage for World War II and the
1940 (5700) - Himmler presents his plan for
the "Final Solution" to the Jewish problem to the Nazi Party.
1942 (5702) - Nazis begin deporting Jews from
the Warsaw Ghetto.
Apparently the Enemy of God's people "observe"
Jewish Holy days too...
May the grace of Almighty God be with those who
have yet to truly SEE the Messiah of Israel, who is the LORD Jesus Christ!
Jeremiah 23:5-8 "Behold,
the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch,
and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in
In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall
dwell safely: and this is his Name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the
LORD, that they shall no more say, The LORD liveth, which brought up the
children of Israel out of the land of Egypt; But, The LORD liveth, which brought
up and which led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and
from all countries whither I had driven them;
and they shall dwell in their own land."
Psalms 122:1-9 "I
was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.
Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O
Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact
together: Whither the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, unto the Testimony
of Israel, to give thanks unto the name of the LORD.
For there are set thrones of Judgment, the thrones
of the house of David.
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall
prosper that love thee. Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within
For my brethren and companions' sakes, I will now
say, Peace be within thee. Because of the house of the LORD our God
I will seek thy good."
And may the will of the LORD be done, in His
perfect time! Amen!
